The risks of the game (called inherent risks) = are=20 acceptable as long as a coach acts prudently and as long as these = inherent=20 risks are known, appreciated, understood and consciously accepted = by the=20 participants.

 

 

SEVEN LEGAL=20 DUTIES OF A COACH:

 

1.       =20 Adequate Supervision

 

2.       =20 Sound Planning of Practices and Skill = Progression.

 

3.       =20 Inherent Risks: =20 Repeat warnings to players of dangerous techniques.

It is the intent of U.S. Youth Soccer and = Peachtree=20 City Youth Soccer Association to exclude from participation in our = activities, at a minimum, all persons who have been convicted of = crimes of=20 violence or crimes against persons.

I.           = ;         =20 Protect your players:

a.       =20 Adult (21 or older) supervision is required at = all=20 activities.  = Registered coach=20 or registered assistant coach should be in attendance.  If neither is attending = the coach=20 must appoint another adult to act as a supervising coach.

b.      =20 Players can not play with hard = (nonremovable)=20 casts, even if padded.

c.       =20 Players must=20 wear shin guards at all times, whether playing or practicing.

d.      =20 Never allow=20 your players to play on, or hang from, goals.

e.       =20 Check the goals and field before each activity = for=20 hazards, holes, sharp objects, etc. =20 This includes the perimeter immediately outside the game or = practice field.

 

 

II.           = ;       =20 Qualified Adult=20 Supervision:

a.       =20 Volunteers, coaches, and administrators are  required to provide a = background=20 disclosure form to PTCYSA and GYSA.

b.      =20 Each will be subject to the possibility of a = criminal and=20 registered sexual offender background check.  Disclosures will be = renewable=20 every two years.

c.       =20 Youth ages 17 to 21 may register as Assistant = Coaches,=20 but must have a registered adult present at all activities.

d.      =20 No youth 16 years or younger may be registered = with=20 PTCYSA in any capacity as coach, volunteer, or administrator.

 

III.           = ;     =20 Goal=20 Safety:

a.       =20 Goals must be anchored securely at all times = during=20 play.  This includes = games AND=20 practices.

b.      =20 Never allow the players to climb on, or hang = from,=20 goals.

c.       =20 If moving goals great care should be used, and = there must=20 always be adult supervision and/or assistance.

d.      =20 Do not use a goal that is damaged, weakened, or = otherwise=20 in disrepair.

 

 

IV.           = ;    =20 Child/Sexual=20 Abuse and other Inappropriate Conduct: Protect yourself and the=20 child.

a.       =20 Two-Adult Policy: =20 Two adults should be present during all scheduled = activities.

b.      =20 Avoid being alone with players in non-public=20 settings.

c.       =20 Never be alone with one player (who is not a = family=20 member) in any setting, including a car.

d.      =20 If two adults can not be present, then insure = that there=20 is at least three people (including yourself) present.

e.       =20 Profane, offensive, insulting, and abusive = language will=20 not be tolerated, either on the field of play or in the field=92s = general=20 area.

f.        =20 Never verbally demean, negatively label, or = ridicule a=20 child based on weight, gender, race, sexual orientation, or any = other=20 identifying characteristic (or lack of soccer skill!).

g.      =20 Do not buy gifts or give money to players.

h.      =20 Document unusual situations and forward the = documentation=20 to the PTCYSA President.

i.        =20 Avoid fraternization with players in = non-sanctioned=20 activities.

 

V.           = ;      =20 Bloodborne=20 Pathogens:

a.       =20 Assume the presence of HIV-positive players in = all=20 situations and take care accordingly.

b.      =20 Routinely use latex gloves when treating the = wound.  Keep a supply of latex = gloves with=20 you in your team first aid kit.

c.       =20 Immediately wash hands and other contaminated = areas after=20 treating wound.

d.      =20 Contaminated towels, dressings, gauze, etc. = should be=20 properly discarded.  = Carry=20 plastic bags with you for this purpose.

e.       =20 Do not allow players with bloodied clothing to = resume=20 play wearing the soiled clothes.

Any player that is bleeding should be removed = from play=20 until bleeding has stopped and the wound=20 covered.

 

VI.           = ;    =20 Inclement Weather Policy:

a.          =20   Remove your players = from the=20 field, and seek shelter immediately, at the first sound of thunder = or=20 first sign of lightning. =20 Allow for a minimum of twenty minutes after last sound of = thunder=20 or sight of lightning before resuming play.

b.  =20 Just because the fields may not officially be closed does = not imply=20 that they are safe to play/practice on.  Use good judgement.

   

VII.           = ;  =20 First Aid Do=92s=85

a.       =20 Do have a signed and notorized medical = release for=20 each player with you (or other supervising adult) at all = times.

b.       =20 Do know where the nearest phone is for = placing an=20 emergency call.

c.       =20 Do be aware of any special medical needs, = allergies,=20 asthmatic conditions, etc. of your players.

d.       =20 Do provide ample water breaks.

e.       =20 Do have with you at all activities a first = aid=20 kit.

f.        =20 Do always err on the side of caution.

g.      =20 Do inform parents of player injury incurred = during=20 practice or game.

Do ask for a Doctor=92s letter approving a = child=92s=20 resumption of soccer activity after any absence due to significant = injury=20 that required a Doctor=92s=20 care.
